The X-Men is my all-time favourite series so I just had to catch the latest movie as soon as I could! And I sure am glad I did. X-Men: Days of Future Past simply blew me away, it was THAT awesome. Funny, emotionally charged and heartbreaking, the movie runs 134 minutes but it is not enough! I want more X-Men!!!
Here are my 5 Awesome Moments of X-Men: Days of Future Past.
1. FUNNIEST MOMENT
The ultimate jailbreak by Quicksilver (Peter Evans), as he moves bullets, changes gun angles, and rearranges his enemies’ limbs in a slow-mo kitchen scene, while listening to groovy music on his headphones. Absolutely hilarious!
2. MOST TENSE MOMENT
After Magneto’s jailbreak, while on a plane to Paris, Charles/Professor X and Erik/Magneto have a standoff in the plane, both dealing with the losses of their loved ones. Magneto’s power causes the plane to dent and lose control, and it is tense, wondering if they will ever be able to put aside their differences to come together and save the mutants.
3. MOST HEARTBREAKING MOMENT
When Professor X reaches out to Raven/Mystique via the people around her, to persuade her not to carry out her disastrous plan. To watch strangers voice out Charles’ words, while the pain and how much he cares for her still coming through, is simply heartbreaking to watch.
4. MOST DOOM AND GLOOM MOMENT
When the Sentinels destroy the X-men apart like they are nothing; Storm stabbed, Blink getting triple stabbed, Magneto barely keeping the Sentinels at bay. Even though one knows that they will survive this, it is still despairing watching all of the X-Men try so hard and still get ripped apart like toys.
5. MOST INSIGHTFUL MOMENT
When Charles tries to convince an enraged Mystique not to kill Trask; that the cycle of killing and revenge would never end, that people can be given second chances even if they stumble, that there is a better way out. It is humanity at its best, and one that is good to remember.
With my 5 awesome moments of X-Men: DOFP, I also have one negative moment gripe.
MOST DISAPPOINTING MOMENT
After Mystique takes down Magneto and then points the gun at Trask, that could have been the perfect opportunity to make a speech about mutants and their desire to live in peace. There was so much tension built up already, it would have been perfect if Mystique had said something. Unfortunately that didn’t happen, which was pretty disappointing.
